Description
The United States of America will commemorate its 250th anniversary—known as the Semiquincentennial—on 4 July 2026, marking 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Adopted and signed by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1776, the Declaration formally announced the decision of the thirteen American colonies to sever political ties with Great Britain, asserting their right to self-governance and laying the foundation of the United States.
As a founding Member State of the United Nations, the United States has played a significant role in the Organization since its establishment. Its engagement has contributed to the advancement of the purposes and principles of the Charter, including multilateral cooperation, the promotion of human rights, and the maintenance of international peace and security.
To mark this historic anniversary, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) is issuing a $2.50 commemorative stamp and an “America 250” stamp sheet. The release recognizes the longstanding relationship between the United States and the United Nations and reflects shared commitments to cooperation and
international partnership.
