Description
The UN Postal Administration is issuing three stamp sheets on 24 October 2025 to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations.
As the UN marks its 80th anniversary this year, the Secretary-General launched the UN80 Initiative, a system-wide reform effort to ask and answer a fundamental question: How can we be more nimble, coordinated, and effective for the next 80 years?
At a time of growing global crises and pressure on multilateralism, the UN80 Initiative aims to reimagine how the UN delivers — not by doing less, but by doing better.
The UN80 initiative focuses on three parallel workstreams:
- Efficiencies & improvements in how we manage and operate
- Reviewing how mandates are implemented, not what they are
- Exploring structural and program realignment across the UN system
This effort is aimed at making the UN more effective, agile, and responsive. It is about using our limited resources as effectively as possible by working more efficiently, reducing bureaucracy, and better supporting both our staff and the people we serve.
The Designs
The three stamp sheets in the denominations of $1.70, CHF 1,70 and € 2,10 feature four se-tenant stamps in a vertical design. The designs incorporate the themes of the UN pillars: peace & security, development, and human rights.
The first stamp on the top is Earth portrayed as greenery, showing growth—the geometric forms atop it integrate human, architectural, and community development.
The second stamp from top reflects Human rights is the focus—the peace dove and hand represent humanity joined in the common goal of tolerance, acceptance and love.
The third stamp from the top shows an architectural rainbow which integrates with a peace dove. It protects the growing foliage, which allows for growth and development. Without peace and safety, communities can’t thrive.
The stamp at the bottom shows the freedom of a butterfly, a symbol of transformation and hope. Integrated into the butterfly wing, a dove is perched on the arch as an open window in the sky. This symbolizes how peace needs freedom to be able to progress.
